Enrolls in and completes courses in such areas as constitutional law, Georgia criminal law, criminal procedure, rules of evidence, juvenile law, liability, interpersonal communications, police stress management, patrol operations, criminal reporting, crisis intervention, criminal investigations, preliminary investigations, etc. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS UPON COMPLETION OF BASIC TRAINING Performs a wide range of police assignments such as routine patrol of assigned area, responding to radio dispatches, crisis intervention, peacekeeping, crowd control, criminal apprehension, dealing with emotionally disturbed persons, preliminary investigation of serious crimes, traffic regulation and enforcement, accident investigation, warrant service, statistical data evaluation interpretations. Participates in training programs and receives continuing on-the-job training in law enforcement techniques and procedures, departmental organization, rules, policies and related laws. Also receives and maintains up to date knowledge and training in the use, care and maintenance of assigned equipment, such as revolver, radar equipment, two-way radios, etc. Responds to radio dispatches and evaluates emergency situations and takes appropriate actions, such as making arrests and maintaining crime scene for investigating officers. May assist in conducting investigations, making arrests, participating in legal searches and surveillance activities, accumulating evidence and case information, giving testimonies in court, serving subpoenas and retrieving crime lab reports. Directs traffic and may investigate traffic accidents and provide aid to injured persons; may substitute for School Crossing Guards at school post; assists the general public via telephone or walk-ins with general information and directions. May perform minor preventive maintenance on vehicles; may attend meetings; prepares various reports, such as incident reports, supplemental reports, vehicular accident reports, traffic citations, juvenile reports, etc. Attends community organizations meetings; organizes Neighborhood Watch Programs; conducts crime prevention seminars in the community; and conducts crime prevention residential/business surveys. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs other related duties as required. |
| Minimum Qualifications: |
| Valid driver’s license and high school diploma or GED is required. Applicant must be 21 years of age by the date of hire and must be a citizen of the United States or a repatriated or naturalized citizen of the United States.
An extensive background investigation, and post-offer/pre-employment medical exam including supervised drug screen will be conducted. Individuals hired as Police Officers must comply with a No Use of Tobacco Agreement. Police Officer Trainees with at least a BS or BA degree and/orat least 2 years of acceptable law enforcement experience are eligible for above Police Officer Entry Pay, after obtaining State of Georgia POST certification and being sworn in as a Police Officer.I understand this position involves the following terms of employment due to its designation as Safety Sensitive:
